The Beauty of Beginning | 2.26.26

One year ago - on my birthday (iconic energy amiright?) - I decided to take a leap and officially start my photography business.

I didn’t have a perfect plan.

I didn’t have everything figured out.

I didn’t even have my EIN number yet (whoopsie).

However, I decided I didn’t need to have every little thing figured out.

I gave myself permission to let go of perfection and just begin - to build something that was completely mine and see where it could lead.

My only true goal for the year was to photograph as much as I could.

Headshots.
Portraits.
Weddings. Fundraisers.
Interiors.
Branding.
Creative sessions.
Anything and everything.

This year, I really wanted to let my curiosity guide me. I didn’t want to narrow in on one specific niche. Maybe that will come with time. Or maybe I’ll always love shooting a little bit of everything. Either way, it’s been really rewarding to see where the different experiences have led me.

I discovered areas I want to explore more deeply - and some that surprised me in the best way. I learned the business side of photography and thee multiple different programs that came with it. I met with incredible photography coaches and mentors who challenged and inspired me. I tried new equipment. I experimented. I stretched myself creatively.

One of my favorite commitments this year was creating a photography blog (this one right here :)) every single month. It ended up becoming one of my favorite parts of each month. It gave me space to reflect, create just for the joy of it, and document what inspired me in that season.

I felt encouraged to notice beauty in everyday moments. It pushed me to adventure more, explore new places, and find aesthetic inspiration all around me.

And maybe one of the biggest personal wins?

I became confident enough to step in front of the camera myself which turned out to be such a wonderful experience :).

This year was exactly what I hoped it would be: a year full of exploration, learning, courage, and momentum.

I gave myself permission to begin - imperfectly. And that decision changed everything.

Here’s to one year of growth.

One year of learning.

One year of building something from the heart.

And I am so excited to dive even deeper this next year. 🤍
