Summer Maternity Photoshoot Ideas: Beach & At-Home Sessions

The Sweetest Season Before Baby

A Little Bit of Summer, A Lot of Love | 8.31.26

This summer, I had the sweetest opportunity to photograph two maternity sessions for two very special friends. It reminded me exactly why I love photographing people in the seasons of life that mean the most.

One session took us to the beach, with the ocean, soft summer light, and plenty of room to let things unfold naturally. The other took place at home, where the setting was quieter, more intimate, and filled with little details that made the photos feel incredibly personal.

There is no wrong place to take maternity photos :).

A Beach Maternity Session

There’s something about photographing maternity sessions by the water that feels especially magical in the summer. The movement of the waves, the breeze, the warm light - it all creates a naturally beautiful backdrop without needing much else.

For this session, we kept things relaxed and simple. Barefoot in the sand, walking along the water, soaking in the last few moments before welcoming their little one.

I love when maternity photography feels less like a posed photoshoot and more like a snapshot of what this season actually feels like.

An At-Home Maternity Session

The second session was completely different and just as beautiful.

Instead of heading to a location, we stayed home. And that’s what made these photos so special. There was something incredibly intimate about documenting this little chapter in a place that already meant so much to them.

We captured the details - the growing belly, the hands resting on it, the quiet moments, and the sweet backdrops around the home.

Sometimes the most meaningful photographs happen in the places where you already feel the most comfortable.

Whether you’re barefoot on the beach, curled up on your couch, wandering around your backyard, or somewhere completely unexpected, maternity photos don’t have to look a certain way. Because no matter where you do it, it will be cute. :)

And someday, these photographs will be so much more than pretty pictures. They’ll be a little time capsule of the person you were, the people you loved, and the tiny person you were waiting so patiently to meet.

With Love,

LC
