A Love Letter to Fishs Eddy | 7.31.26

I kept seeing Fishs Eddy pop up all over my Instagram feed, and I knew I had to add it to my list for my next trip to New York City. I assumed it was a trendy new shop, but to my surprise, it's actually been a New York staple for over 40 years. Somehow, I'd never heard of it before and now I can't believe it took me this long to discover it. 

Every shelf was packed with colorful plates, quirky mugs, vintage glassware, serving dishes, and unique kitchen accessories. If you love cooking, entertaining, or simply appreciate beautiful home décor, it’s incredibly hard to leave empty-handed.

What surprised me the most was the history behind the store, it's actually been a New York favorite since the mid-1980s. The founders named it after a small village in upstate New York that they discovered when they were lost on a road trip. The concept of the store started when the founders purchased a massive collection of rescued restaurant dishware from an old barn and started selling it out of their Manhattan apartment. Originally built around rescued restaurant and hotel dinnerware, the shop still blends vintage finds with playful, modern designs, giving it a charm that's completely unique. 

Walking through the store feels like exploring a treasure hunt. Around every corner there’s another stack of beautifully mismatched plates, silly mugs, classic diner-style dishes, and pieces that feel like they each have their own story. It’s organized chaos in the best possible way.

One of my favorite things about Fishs Eddy is that it doesn’t feel overly curated or trendy. Instead, it feels authentic - like a place that’s been loved by New Yorkers for decades. It’s the kind of shop where you can find a unique souvenir you’ll actually use long after your trip is over. One of my favorite displays was the collection of pigeon portraits from each of New York City's boroughs. Such a quirky and fun touch! :). They also have an in-house artist who creates the cutest custom pet portraits. If you're a pet lover, they're definitely worth checking out! If you’re exploring the Flatiron District or Union Square, I’d absolutely recommend making time for a stop here. Even if you don’t buy anything, it’s one of those stores that’s just fun to browse.
